Portsoy has one of the oldest harbours on the Banffshire coast and a long trade in its own green-and-pink “Portsoy marble”, a serpentine that was polished for fireplaces and, by local tradition, sent to Versailles. Each summer the old harbour fills up for the Scottish Traditional Boat Festival, well worth catching if the dates line up. Sandend and its surf beach are just along the coast.
