Portsoy’s old harbour is reckoned the oldest on the Moray Firth, built at the end of the 17th century when the town traded in linen and ‘Portsoy marble’, a local serpentine polished for ornaments. Each summer the tight stone basin fills with sail for the Scottish Traditional Boat Festival. It’s free to wander the quays and old merchants’ houses. Keith station is about 22km inland.
