Banff has one of the best-preserved Georgian townscapes in the north-east, a tight grid of 18th-century houses above the mouth of the Deveron. Its grandest building is Duff House, a classical mansion designed by William Adam in 1730 and now open as a gallery, an outstation of the National Galleries of Scotland. Macduff sits just across the river bridge.
