Gardenstown drops in steep terraces down the side of Gamrie Bay, its old fishertown packed tight above a sheltered harbour. Alexander Garden founded the place in 1720, and fishing has been its living ever since. Down on the shore stand the ruins of the medieval Kirk of St John. A cliff path east leads round to tiny Crovie, while Troup Head and its gannet colony are close by.
