Pennan is a single row of houses squeezed between the cliffs and a small harbour on the Moray Firth coast. It’s best known as a setting for the 1983 film Local Hero, and the red phone box beside the road became such a draw that it’s now a listed building — though the box used on screen was actually a prop placed a few yards from the real one. A steep road drops down to the shore. Cullykhan Bay and Troup Head are close by.
