Nelson took its name from the Lord Nelson inn at its centre. Beside it stands a rare Welsh handball court, built around 1860 and the last of its kind still standing in the country. The Tudor manor of Llancaiach Fawr, run as a living-history house with costumed guides, sits just outside the village. Quakers Yard station is about 3km west.
