The great Welsh chapel hymn was born here. John Hughes wrote the tune “Cwm Rhondda” for this Baptist chapel above Pontypridd, and it was first sung on 1 November 1907 to mark the installation of a new organ. It’s the melody that carries “Guide Me, O Thou Great Redeemer” and fills the rugby terraces. Open by arrangement; Trehafod station and the Rhondda Heritage Park sit a short way down the valley.
