Rhondda Heritage Park occupies the old Lewis Merthyr colliery at Trehafod, kept much as it was left when the pit closed in 1983. Former miners lead the tour through the workings and winding gear, telling the story of coal in the Rhondda. There’s a visitor centre, café and play area above ground. Ticketed for the tour; Trehafod station is a few minutes’ walk.
