Places to explore in CaerphillyWales · South East Wales
This is valleys country, a grain of high moorland ridges running north to south between the Rhymney and Sirhowy rivers, all carved by coal. Its centrepiece is Caerphilly Castle, the largest in Wales and second in Britain only to Windsor, ringed by broad water defences and famous for a leaning tower. The wooded slopes of Caerphilly Mountain separate the town from Cardiff, and forest drives and bike trails climb through Cwmcarn Forest. The Tudor manor of Llancaiach Fawr recalls life before the pits, near Nelson.
