Cwmcarn Forest climbs the eastern side of the Ebbw Valley, with a seven-mile Forest Drive winding up through the trees to picnic spots and viewpoints. There are mountain-bike trails, a visitor centre and a campsite, and a walk up to the Twmbarlwm hillfort on the ridge above. Crosskeys station is the nearest, a few kilometres south. Check whether the Forest Drive is open before setting out.
