St Woolos on Stow Hill is the cathedral church of the diocese of Monmouth, though it began as a much older parish church and still carries that feel. Its finest feature is a richly carved Norman archway into the nave, its columns thought to be reused Roman work. The cathedral stands above the town centre, a short walk uphill from Newport station.
