Tredegar House, on the western edge of Newport, is one of the finest Restoration mansions in Britain, home for centuries to the Morgan family and now run by the National Trust. Behind it lie formal walled gardens, including an unusual parterre laid out in coloured gravels and stone. House and gardens both open to visitors. Pye Corner station is about 2km north.
