Country Life named Kingham England’s favourite village back in 2004, and the Evenlode-valley village has traded on it happily since. Stone cottages with pastel doors gather round a green and a medieval church, and two of the area’s best-known dining pubs — the Kingham Plough and the Wild Rabbit — are here. The station, about a mile south, keeps fast trains to London and makes a good walkers’ gateway to the north Cotswolds.
