Abbotswood sits above a quiet valley a mile or so from Stow-on-the-Wold, its terraced lawns and fountain laid out by Edwin Lutyens for the businessman Mark Fenwick in the early 1900s, with further Arts and Crafts planting added by Norman Jewson in the 1930s. It’s known for its snowdrops — over 80 varieties — plus herbaceous borders and a bog garden running down to the stream. The garden isn’t generally open: it takes pre-booked group visits through the National Garden Scheme’s By Arrangement scheme, rather than regular public hours.
