Batsford is a 55-acre hillside arboretum above Moreton-in-Marsh, planted from the 1880s by the 1st Lord Redesdale — grandfather of the Mitford sisters — after his years in the Far East, and now the largest private tree collection in the country. Around 2,900 trees, strong on Japanese maples, magnolias and flowering cherries, at their best in spring blossom and autumn colour. Paid entry, open most of the year. Moreton-in-Marsh station is about 2km east.
