Twin brook-side hamlets of unspoilt Cotswold stone.
Upper Slaughter is one of England’s few ‘doubly thankful’ villages — every one of its servicemen came home from both world wars, so it has no war memorial. It’s a mile up the River Eye from busier Lower Slaughter, quieter and just as unspoilt, with cottages around a small square remodelled by Edwin Lutyens. Kingham station is about 10km east.
