The Porch House on Stow’s market square bills itself as England’s oldest inn, a claim Guinness has recognised, though the traditional founding date of 947 is doubted by historians. Beams, tilting floors and a huge inglenook make the case anyway. It’s a comfortable place to eat and stay in Stow-on-the-Wold. Kingham station is about 7km away.
