Wensleydale market town and cheese home.
Hawes is the highest market town in Wensleydale and the busy top end of the dale. The Wensleydale Creamery here still makes the crumbly cheese, there’s a working ropemaker you can watch at the old station, and the Dales Countryside Museum shares the same yard. Tuesday is market day. Gayle is a two-minute walk away, and the Buttertubs Pass climbs over the fells to Swaledale from just outside town.
