The ancient, flagstoned Green Dragon at Hardraw holds a curious distinction: the only way to Hardraw Force, England’s highest single-drop waterfall above ground, is through a turnstile behind the pub (around £4 for adults). Cross the inn’s ground, follow the beck, and there it is. Fires and ale wait on your return. Garsdale station is about 8km to the west.
