Foxton stands beside the Grand Union Canal’s most celebrated climb: Foxton Locks, ten locks in two staircases of five, the largest such flight in England, built in 1810 to lift boats some 23 metres. The overgrown remains of a Victorian boat-lift inclined plane sit alongside. The Foxton Locks Inn overlooks the bottom pound, and Market Harborough station is about 5km to the south-east.
