Every Easter Monday Hallaton stages its Hare Pie Scramble and Bottle Kicking, a centuries-old free-for-all fought against neighbouring Medbourne with beer casks for balls and next to no rules. This village of thatch and a conical church spire also gave up the Hallaton Treasure — thousands of Iron Age coins and a Roman parade helmet, unearthed in 2000. A butter cross stands on the green.
