Covehithe’s church is the oddity: a small thatched building put up inside the roofless shell of a far larger medieval one, St Andrew’s, which the shrunken parish could no longer keep up. Past it the lane ends at fast-eroding sandy cliffs and a wild beach backed by a lagoon. The sea takes a few metres of this coast most years, so the road keeps getting shorter.
