A tidy seaside town of colour-washed houses and beach huts, open greens and a white lighthouse set among the streets. Southwold brews its own beer at Adnams, has a Victorian pier with an eccentric water clock, and looks across the mouth of the Blyth to Walberswick. There’s no station in the town, so most people arrive by road.
