Purple heather and gorse above a lost coast.
Open accessNational Trust land — free to wander
Dunwich Heath is a surviving patch of the Sandlings, the coastal lowland heath that once ran along much of this shore — purple with heather in late summer and good for Dartford warblers, nightjars and adders. A row of Victorian coastguard cottages sits on the low cliff, now a National Trust café and shop, with the marshes of RSPB Minsmere just to the south. The Trust has owned the heath since 1968. Darsham station is about 7km inland.
