House in the Clouds
National iconWater tower disguised as a house on stilts.

Built in 1923, this really is a water tower dressed up as a house — the tank was boxed inside a mock weatherboarded cottage so it wouldn’t spoil the made-up holiday village of Thorpeness below. It rises about 21 metres, with five floors of rooms beneath what used to be the tank. The water was piped away in the 1970s and the tank taken out, and it’s now a private holiday let, best seen from the path around Thorpeness Meare.
