Victorian maltings turned concert hall by the Alde.
Approximate location — this spot is pinned to the nearest village, so the exact point may be a little way off.
Benjamin Britten turned these redundant Victorian malthouses on the River Alde into a concert hall, opened in 1967, and it’s still the main home of the Aldeburgh Festival each June — one of the finest-sounding halls in the country. Around it the old buildings hold galleries, shops and cafés, and boardwalks run out over the reedbeds. The site is free to wander; concerts are ticketed. The Plough and Sail is right there for lunch, and Saxmundham station is about 6km north.
