Staverton Park is ancient wood-pasture on the sandy Suffolk coast, best known for the gnarled, centuries-old pollarded oaks of the Thicks, a dense stand where some of the hollies are reckoned among the largest in Britain. The land is privately farmed, but a public footpath runs through, with parking and toilets at Shepherd’s Cottage. It links easily into a longer walk through Sandlings Forest nearby, with Woodbridge the closest train station.
