Beneath these grassy mounds above the River Deben, archaeologists in 1939 uncovered an Anglo-Saxon ship burial — a longship some 27 metres long and the treasure of an East Anglian king. The National Trust runs the site, with an exhibition hall and a 17-metre tower looking out over the burial field; the finds themselves are now in the British Museum. Woodbridge station is under a kilometre away.
