Woodbridge Tide Mill
Local highlightA tide mill has stood on this quay by the Deben since 1170, storing each incoming tide in a pond and letting it out again to drive the wheel. When it stopped in 1957 it was the last commercially working tide mill in England; restored, it’s now one of only two in the country still grinding wholemeal flour. The wheel turns at set times dictated by the tide, so check the day’s milling times before you go. Woodbridge station is right beside it, and Buttrum’s windmill stands up the hill.
