Old and New Cemetery, Ipswich
Open accessfree to visit at any reasonable time
Ipswich’s Old Cemetery opened in 1855, laid out by the landscape gardener William Davidson across gently rolling ground bought from John Cobbold. Its two chapels, one Anglican and one for nonconformists, still stand, and among the thousands buried here is England football manager Alf Ramsey. Ipswich Borough Council runs it, and it’s free to walk round every day, though gate times vary through the year. Further out along the coast are Freston Tower and the fishing hamlet at Pin Mill.
