Approximate location — this spot is pinned to the nearest village, so the exact point may be a little way off.
A cluster of cottages and a hard running down to the mud on the south bank of the Orwell, where old Thames sailing barges still lie at their berths. The waterside pub, the Butt and Oyster, has poured beer here for centuries; Arthur Ransome moored nearby and set part of We Didn’t Mean to Go to Sea at Pin Mill. Woods and a shore path lead off along the river. Freston Tower rises upstream.
