Two classical towers stand oddly alone on the green at Mistley — all that survives of a church Robert Adam remodelled in 1776, the nave pulled down a century later. They’re now looked after by English Heritage, and swans gather along the Stour-side quay just below. It’s a ten-minute walk down the river to Manningtree. The station sits on the waterfront.
