Charles Eley began this twenty-acre garden and arboretum around 1900, planting rare trees, magnolias, camellias and rhododendrons that thrive on the acid soil — often called a Cornish garden dropped into Suffolk. It’s at its best in spring. The walled garden now holds a specialist plant centre, The Place for Plants. This is Constable country, a short way from Flatford; paid entry. Manningtree station is about 4km to the south-east.
