A quiet village of timber-framed houses in the Gipping valley, Coddenham sits on the site of Combretovium, a Roman town and posting station where several roads met — one of the more important Roman settlements in Suffolk. Little of that is visible now, but the old street rewards a slow look. Needham Market station is about 4km west.
