Six storeys of red brick and 61 feet tall, Buttrum’s Mill is the tallest surviving windmill in Suffolk. It was built in 1836 by the Wickham Market millwright John Whitmore, worked by wind until 1928, and restored in the 1950s, keeping its cap and fantail. It stands on the western edge of Woodbridge, roughly a mile from the town’s working tide mill. Open to climb on some summer weekends, free.
