Approximate location — this spot is pinned to the nearest village, so the exact point may be a little way off.

A short row of old coastguard cottages faces the sea down a dead-end lane, with a long bank of shingle running to the mouth of the River Ore. It’s a bare, exposed spot — few facilities, big skies, and seals often hauled out on the spit opposite. Look for the winding line of white whelk shells that residents laid across the beach. Orford, with its castle, sits a few miles up the estuary.
