The Tollemache family began Helmingham Hall in 1480 and still live here, raising the drawbridge over its moat each night. The Grade I gardens run from Tudor walled kitchen beds to herbaceous borders and the knot and rose gardens Lady Xa Tollemache laid out from 1982, all set in a 400-acre deer park. Open on set days through summer; paid entry.
