St Botolph is said to have founded his minster here at Iken Hoe around the year 654, on a knoll above the Alde marshes. The present thatched church holds the shaft of a carved Saxon cross that may once have been a memorial to him. Its nave burned in 1968 and was rebuilt by 1989. A quiet spot at the end of a lane above the estuary; open access.
