Trollers Gill is a short, steep-sided limestone gorge above Appletreewick, narrow enough in places to feel closed-in overhead. Local tales give it a spectral black hound, the Barghest, said to prowl the ravine at night. It’s free to reach on foot, but the gorge floor is rocky and often wet with a bit of scrambling, and the beck can rise fast after rain, so keep an eye on the weather. Skipton is the nearest station, roughly 13km south-west.
