The Strid is the point on the River Wharfe at Bolton Abbey where the whole river funnels into a channel barely a stride across. It looks almost jumpable, and that’s exactly the danger: the water is deep, fast and undercut beneath the rocks, and it has drowned people who slipped or tried to leap it. Look, don’t cross — stay off the wet rocks and never attempt the gap. It’s reached on wooded riverside paths through the Bolton Abbey estate. Skipton station is about 10km south-west.
