A single street of old stone houses climbing the hillside above the Wharfe, Appletreewick keeps two characterful inns and makes a fine walking base. The narrow limestone gorge of Trollers Gill — supposedly haunted by a spectral hound — is a short way up the beck, and Burnsall sits just downstream. Skipton station is about 11km to the south-west.
