A curved cliff amphitheatre of white limestone, 80 metres high.
Malham Cove is a huge curved wall of white limestone about 80 metres high, left when the waterfall that once poured over it dried up. From Malham village it’s a short walk to the foot; a stepped path of some 400 steps climbs the side to the limestone pavement on top, which had a turn as a filming location in the Harry Potter films. Sturdy footwear helps, as the pavement is slippery when wet. Gordale Scar is close enough to fold into the same walk. Settle station is about 8km west.
