There’s been a church at Kirkby Malham since at least the 9th century, though the tall building you see today was rebuilt in the 15th. Look for the 11th-century font, carved with zigzags, which survives from a much earlier church on the site. It’s a short hop from Malham and the great amphitheatre of Malham Cove, so easy to fold into a day in that corner of the Dales. Open daily.
