Denge Sound Mirrors
Local highlightThe Denge Sound Mirrors are three concrete ‘listening ears’ built on the Romney Marsh in the 1920s to pick up the drone of approaching aircraft, before radar made them obsolete. The largest is a curved wall around 200 feet long. They now sit stranded on an island in a flooded gravel pit, usually seen from across the water; guided open days give closer access. Appledore station is about 13km to the north-west.
