Llyn y Fan Fawr is a remote glacial lake below the crags of Fan Brycheiniog, the larger of the two tarns tucked under the Black Mountain escarpment. It’s a long walk in over open moorland, well away from any road, which keeps it quiet. Trout swim in the cold water and the cliffs above draw walkers up onto the ridge. The nearest station, Llandovery, is around 13km to the north-west.
