Ystradfellte is an upland village at the heart of Waterfall Country, a short way from the falls on the Afon Mellte and the great river cave of Porth yr Ogof, where the Mellte vanishes underground. It’s a small place with a church and a pub, and gets busy with walkers in summer. Pontneddfechan is the other main gateway to the falls, down the valley to the south.
