The first of the falls on the Four Waterfalls walk, a stepped drop on the Afon Mellte in the waterfall country of the Brecon Beacons
Sgwd Clun-Gwyn — sgwd is Welsh for waterfall — is a stepped fall on the Afon Mellte, in the wooded gorge country south of Ystradfellte in Bannau Brycheiniog, the Brecon Beacons. The name means roughly “fall of the white meadow”. The water slides and drops over broad ledges of rock rather than plunging in one clean leap, which is the character of most of the falls in this corner. It’s the first of several strung along the popular Four Waterfalls walk, which further on reaches Sgwd yr Eira, the well-known one you can walk right behind. The paths through the gorge get slick and muddy, and people have come to grief scrambling on the wet rock near the falls, so it’s worth keeping to the marked route.
