Trecastle lies on the old coaching road west of Sennybridge, and its name records a castle long gone: a large motte and bailey survives as earthworks at the edge of the village, among the biggest in Wales. There’s a former coaching inn on the main street. The Roman road over Mynydd Bach Trecastell and its marching camps lie on the moor to the west.
