University of Leicester Botanic Garden
Sixteen acres at Oadby, made from four former private gardens now run together as one, this is the university’s teaching garden and it’s free to walk round. There are rock and water gardens, a herb garden and an arboretum outside, plus glasshouses running from alpine through tropical to cactus. Open weekdays year-round and weekends through the warmer months. Leicester station is about 3.5km to the north-west.
