The 42-metre Rocket Tower, clad in semi-transparent ETFE cushions, marks the National Space Centre from across Leicester. Inside stand upright rockets and a Soyuz capsule, six galleries of space hardware, and the UK’s largest planetarium, the Sir Patrick Moore. It opened in 2001 on the banks of the River Soar and remains one of the city’s landmark buildings. Open to visitors most of the year; Leicester station is about 2.5km to the south.
